Newbie to thin-client…please be gentle…
I have lots of remote customers.
They occasionally get protocol problems (Voip, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP….), so what I would like to do…is to use Any Wyse terminal, running something on a par with Ethereal or WireShark (apps support both Unix and some Windows). This would allow me to send them a terminal, plug it in, review and capture protocol problems remotely and then post it back to me – sounds good so far.
But, my colleagues have had problems installing Ethereal and thus I am starting a-fresh.
My questions:
-Which Wyse terminal should I use (cheaper the better – they could get lost/broken in the post).
-Has anyone managed to get a Protocol Analyser working on a Wyse model? Any tips or guidance would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks,
Roger
Great question – I would say the simplest would be to get an S90 and try Ethereal. I have installed this on an older build of an S90 and it worked great,
Cheers,
-TT
The only problem I see is when using a S90 you will have limited flash space and a network trace can grow to a huge size. Consider plugging a memory stick to the S90 and configure Etherreal to save the files there. This will also prevent that you have to disable the WriteFilter.
