Is it possible to boot to usb on these? I would like to run just plain old DOS to monitor some sensors and stuff and don’t want to use a regular pc.

No, the 3235 plattform was not able to do this.

Thank you for the fast response. But it is not what I wanted to hear. 😥

I guess the next question is, Is there a way for me to replace the windows ce with DOS? I have done this with other thin clients but I need them for another project. They are 1ghz and faster machines I need for running windows apps.

This one is to keep my father busy. His wife passed way a while back and since he can’t golf in the winter he wants to help me. So I have him writing programs in COBOL (he programmed in it for over 30 years). But the version of COBOL he uses needs DOS 4 or lower. He does have newer versions of COBOL but as with newer versions of any software, they took out some features he wants.

Through the years we’ve upgraded computers and none of ours has the old dos on them. And I don’t want to tie up any of our other machines. I was hoping to give him the 3235le I have sitting around as a dedicated DOS machine to program with.

    Thanks again, and happy holidays!

it`s possible in theory, as you can run linux on 3235le, but i never heard anyone was doing that. all in all, it should be very complicated to do and you need to be skilled person. why don`t you just get some old 486 or pentium I system on ebay for that? i`d send you one, but i think transport costs would exceed the value of that old pc…..

I really don’t want another big dinosaur of a machine laying around. the compact size and small amounts of memory the 3235le has is perfect. That and like you said, the shipping will far exceed the value of the machine.

Well I gave up for now and formatted and installed DOS 4.01 on another thin client. I used one of my HP/Compaq t5700 series units, it’s a piece of cake.

It just kills me to see that amount of power tied up running DOS. But he’s my dad and it’s worth it to see him focused on something other than the television. I only worry about him in the winter because he doesn’t get out much. In the summer I can’t keep up with him. I’m sure at some point while I was growing up he made some sacrifices for me, so I’ll tell him we’re even.

If any one has an idea how to convert my 3235 let me know cause I’d love to get that other machine back.

Thank you for your response and Happy New Year.

    a 1GHz, 256MB DOS 4 machine…arrrgh!

Sorry to comment on such an old post but does anyone know how you can run linux on 3125LE as mentioned above?
