Ok, here is the deal… I need to image and join the domain (yes it has to be on the domain even though i dont want to do it) with custom naming for our C90LEW terminals. We are going to be implementing hundreds of these devices throughout our enterprise. I have created an image and successfully pushed it to another device. I also have a package to join it to the domain which works successfully, although I cant figure out how to tie it into the image process. I am struggling to get a custom name on the device. I know renaming can be done through WDM but that will not work in our situation as the device name will be the asset tag number. I need it to prompt the technician to put in a name. I need all these things to run together to setup a device. I found posted yesterday under Products the “Prepping WES7 for deployment and joining to the domain using custom naming” document. This is exactly what I need but for WES. Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this task or know if the process from the WES7 documentation can be modified to my needs for WES?

Check Products – WES. There is a doc describing the complete process.

ok, did i miss something? did you read the entire post and understand what i am asking? I have gone through the Products page for WES and do not see anything on what i am asking except for the previously mentioned WES7 deploy and join domain document. Can this in some way be modified to work for WES 2009 since the Windows7 structure and file names are different?

The steps are same for WES2009.
You would have to create a small program/batch file which asks for the new client name and put the startup call in the setup.bat file, whoch is located in the Windowssetup folder.
This batch file executed after the imaging process on first boot. So you can use the same file for running your domain join process.

During your image creation, did you find a way to modify the default profile for users on these devices? I want to modify how the desktop looks for all users that login to the device.

Modify the ntuser.dat of the Default User profile. That should work.
