    In case you don’t want to read the whole message, here’s the error message I’m getting when I deploy this package:

    Try 1:FTP Failed:-1 FTP In MergeReg Failed Line#: 29 Cmd:MR "VNCPasswordvncpass.reg"

    I’m getting some weird errors when sending a package to a v90. I downloaded the package from this site to change the password for VNC. It includes the following files:

    VNCPassword.rsp

    [Version]
    Number=VNCPassword
    Description=Sets the XP VNC Password to test
    OS=XP
    Category=XP Tools

    [Script]
    ;**
    ;** Created by Doug Truitt ,3/13/03

    ;
    ; Check the Operating System of target terminal
    ;
    CO "XP"

    ;
    ; Prompt User for Upgrade
    ;
    QU

    ;
    LU

    ;
    ; Send Registry entries to the device
    ;
    MR "vncpass.reg"
    MR "
    vncpass_user.reg" "User"

    ;
    ; Unlock Console
    ;
    EL

    vncpass.reg

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareORLWinVNC3Default]
    "Password"=hex:2f,98,1d,c5,48,e0,9e,c2

    vncpass_user.reg

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareORLWinVNC3]
    "Password"=hex:2f,98,1d,c5,48,e0,9e,c2

    I put them in a temporary directory with this structure:
    dirVNCPassword.rsp
    dirVNCPasswordvncpass.reg
    dirVNCPasswordvncpass_user.reg

    I can import this into WDM, and it seems to go fine. I can drag the package to the device I want to push it and it prompts to upgrade. It will go for a a second then change to an error state. I get the following message when I view the error message on the job:

    Try 1:FTP Failed:-1 FTP In MergeReg Failed Line#: 29 Cmd:MR "VNCPasswordvncpass.reg"

    I thought this may be permissions related, but it doesn’t appear thats the case. While updating, I can use the IISAdmin tool to watch the Rapport user log in, so I know that the user Rapport is what the client logs into the FTP as. I granted NTFS modify rights to the Rapport user at the inetpubftproot level and it still failed.

    There are no error messages on the client. Nothing on the screen or in the event log.

    I fired up Regmon on the client and, when the package installs, I get a lot of registry activity, but nothing relating to the VNC.reg files. Filemon didn’t provide anything exciting either, except I found that the registry settings are being dumped into a file called C:tempreg.reg. It seems that right after that happens the update dies.

    The weird thing is occasionally it works. I can’t put my finger on when it works, but it has word twice. I applied the package, it worked, rebooted the client and applied it again and it failed.

    I’ve tried deleting that temp.reg file between attempts, giving everyone full control over the portion of the registry I’m writing to, changing the reg file formats from 4 to 5.0, and I’m just as confused now as I was an hour ago!

    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Well, don’t you always figure out what the problem is when 5 minutes after you post looking for some help?

    I found a better command reference that showed a little more information on the MR command. Apparently you can’t Merge a registry file to a different user, UNLESS that user is currently logged in. I was logged in as administrator while I was trying to push the package, and not user.

    So that part APPEARS to be fixed, however, I’m still getting the FTP -1 error and I can’t figure out what that means. 🙁
