I’ve been having problems with WDM and want to do a fresh install on the same server it was on. I spoke to a tech at Wyse that I understood to say if we did not use the old database then all of our devices (CE) would be rebooted. That doesn’t sound right to me. Can someone shed some light?

If you create a new database you will have to recreate all your views and subnets etc and rediscover all your devices. Also all packages will have to be re-registered so make sure you keep a backup of them all with their .rsp scripts.

I have done this though and it didnt reboot all the terminals??

I can live with recreating everything but not with my devices rebooting. I’ve never seen them reboot from a new install either but that would be BAD!

I moved forward with using the new database and had no issue with devices rebooting.

    Hi,

I think the Wyse Tech did not understand your setup. Windows XPe devices with the Enhanced Write Filter will re-boot when a new WDM server is used as it has to flush the cache and write the change.

WTOS, Linux and CE will never reboot on discovery of a new WDM server. Personally, its easier to build a new server most times and re-create you views and packages,

    Cheers,
    -TT

Yea, the frustrating thing was that I explained to him we had no XPe devices from the beginning…
