We currently have 80+ S10 Thin Clients connecting to 3 Windows 2008 Terminal Servers. We are now at the point of needing to upgrade our maintenance agreement to continue to support our thin client workstations, which haven’t had any issues since we deployed them over a year ago with the 6.x Firmware.

We are wondering if we should renew our maintenance and download 7.x and deploy, as our initial cost to do this was exponentially higher as during the purchase of the terminals form our Vendor, they didn’t included the 1 year free maintenance and upgrade with the cost of the devices, this increased the cost to put them into production. Since they have been pretty stable and not needed any more updates.

My question is what are the Pro’s and Con’s of upgrading from 6.x to 7.x what will we be able to achieve if we do upgrade and what will we miss out on if we don’t. Any suggestions out there are much appreciated.

    Thank you

PRO: you will have many RDP 7 features(mic suppport, NLA, etc) CONTRA: S10+WTOS 7 can’t live without FTP server from which WTOS 7 is loaded every time terminal is started up. In any case I’d get maintenance since server part is changing and sometimes it is not possible to overcome newly introduced problems without firmware upgrade.
