I have been reading the instructions for creating a partition but I think I must be missing something.
The instructions were for a V90, but I am hoping they work the same for V90L, everything looked the same.
I downloaded V4.03_Build 556 for V90L – and deployed the image. I logged in as admin immediately after loading the build. I changed the line “extend” to “extend size=177” in the flash.wdd file and logged off. The standard user automatically logged in.
I did notice in the command window that it said “file could not be found” but it happened pretty quick then the window closed and the reboot was started.
I logged in as admin, disabled the write filter, rebooted and looked for the new drive to format but it was not listed. There was a removable drive D: but it said that it was not present. The c drive was partitioned to 485 megs.
I reimaged and treid again with the same results.
Any idea where I went wrong?
October 24, 2007 at 10:29 am #10552Hi,
I have not tried this on the V90L build as it was a while ago when I wrote the article.
Before I check, the new XPe builds have a file based write filter that allows exclusion of files – in many cases this will solve the problems that needed the other partition to be created,
Cheers,

Is this something I could check for? I a new at this and I appreciate any help!
October 24, 2007 at 9:41 pm #10567wait, I maybe I understand.
The new builds have a write filter that allows exclusion of files… you mean I can tell it what files to leave alone such as shortcuts and internet favorites, or what ever? I will look for this info. Thanks.

this is correct. Log on as an administrator (hold Shift key while logging off and the log in using Administrator/Administrator as username/password). Now double click the EWF tray icon and you see the options.

According to Wyse: Pre-SP2 builds use Wyse Write Filter whereas SP2 builds use Microsoft Enhanced Write filter. There is a technote document HERE https://support.wyse.com/OA_HTML/cskatch.jsp?fileid=ZGBDBFC06C9CD61FA7E1A3024B9D36935ED2B68639DB86ACE4&jttst0=4476_50785%2C50785%2C-1%2C0%2C&jtfm0=_0_0_0_-1_f_nv_&etfm1=&jfn=ZG41EB8D69D300AED3B4A3BEDF2C20957D336878BD79D9FE685CEC9E1006537122BCC490CE6A1CCAF0B0954DFD8F36854B77&oas=fz3mdCJhd4DLhVMxAfaARA..
This doc shows the differences between Wyse’s Write Filter and Microsoft’s. One of the differences is that Wyse has a tray icon and Gui where MS is command line.
Now I’m confused again. My SP2 build has the Write Filter Tray icon, and right clicking it opens a GUI. Is this some Microsoft trickery or was the above technote out of date? At any rate, I don’t see anything in this GUI other than Cache Limit and Warning settings, and the Enable/Disable FBWF settings.
October 26, 2007 at 11:01 am #10586Hi,
Maybe this image has not been updated with the new write filter yet, damm! The V90 and S90 images on wyse.com have, not sure why the V90L has not been updated…
October 26, 2007 at 1:50 pm #10593Hi drliebs,
the delimitation between Pre-SP2 and SP2 is not correct. There are SP2 builds out there with the old WF.
As TT suggested, go to wyse.com and download and install latest firmware build. These contain EWF.ConfGen
October 26, 2007 at 1:54 pm #10594I made a similar post last week. I received some V90L’s without having any knowledge of the write filter changes, and couldnt create a partition but after finding out about the new write filter didnt need to.
Cant remember if they had the new write filter as standard as i think i downloaded the latest image form the website (i downloaded 9v92_S556_512) and this definately has it. maybe you need to try this.
Thanks
