Hi Guys,
I’m kinda new to the concept of Thin OS Clients.. I’m just reading off guides from you guys and etc to configure a wnos.ini and user.ini for a sample winterm here at the office.. the bad news is.. I just experimented and tried to setup a FTP Server on WinXP SP2 System.. and it worked out fine at the beginning.. I was able to load up the ini files to the winterm until one instance wherein I edited my wnos.ini file on the FTP (i’m using the generator btw) and saved it.. rebooted the S10 but it didn’t do anything.. It instead went to lockdown mode and I reverted back to it’s state before I made a wnos.ini file except that now it is on lockdown mode..
I’m still wondering what to do here… I checked the reset to factory settings thread.. but I’m not sure what tool to use for the winterm.. Sorry for the noob post.. Thanks… π
26. September 2007 at 18:31 #10292Hi Ron44,
first of all, thanks for using ConfGen.
To understand you correctly, you have created a wnos.ini and the unit picked it up. Then you have modified the wnos.ini and the unit is not picking it up anymore? Or has it picked up the modified version once and is now not picking up anything anymore?
In either case please post your wnos.ini file.
Do you have WDM installed on your network somewhere?
Looks like the FTP server and FTP path is mixed up somehow. If you cannot find out what FTP parameters the client is using you can do a network trace and check the used FTP params. Created the used folder and put an all open wnos.ini file in there (privilege=high).ConfGen
26. September 2007 at 18:58 #10297Thanks too.. It’s such a great tool to use.. makes creating ini files efficient and quick..
That’s right..the unit is not picking it up anymore.. it could’ve picked it up locally.. It might be a path issue since I get this error message when I check the logs.. “cannot access system profile”.. I don’t have WDM installed I just tried it out and check if I can set restrictions to the winterms and possibly create a working ICA connection..
Here is my first try with the configurator.. Just read it today..

the issue is this parameter:
Fileserver=10.41.58.159/wyse
Using this parameter your wnos.ini file should be stored here
/ftproot/wyse/wnos/wnos.ini
Is that the case? If not what ftp credentials you are using? As you have used Privilege=none Lockdown=no you are not using Lockdown mode. This means when you press the “g” key during the boot process the unit will fall back to factory defaults.

26. September 2007 at 19:30 #10299That’s quite correct..
FTP Server settings.. for Windows XP http://FTP..
Allow anonymous connections…
path: C:inetpubftprootUnfortunately.. must last setting was to put lockdown to “yes” just to try out if it will work and put restrictions to the winterm.. therefore eliminating the possibility of using the “G” option..
26. September 2007 at 19:45 #10300What ftp credentials are you (your S10) using?
26. September 2007 at 20:45 #10301The last time I was able to access the settings of the S10 before the lockdown..
DHCP
DNS: 172.x.x.x
WINS: 172.x.x.x
FTP: 10.41.58.159/wyse
user: anonymousI didn’t enter any rapport settings yet or WDM.. Just want to test If I can set restriction to it so that users won’t have access to the settings of the winterm.. and also at the same time enable Citrix ICA connection..
27. September 2007 at 4:30 #10303Looks like you have to do a netwroktrace while the unit is booting.
In that trace you can see where it is looking for the wnos.ini file.
Or just look in your ftp logs. Could also be helpful.ConfGen
2. October 2007 at 8:17 #10337Hi Guys

2. October 2007 at 11:38 #10342Does this work on Vista Business as im getting some weird permission problems when trying to configure the .ini file (create it)
2. October 2007 at 11:57 #10343Works perfectly for me.
