I bought one of these units and i am trying to configure it. All it does is boot to billgpc and trys to find a bootp server and reboots. I have tried to run the xfer and upgrade the firmware but it never updates. I have an 8′ laplink cable i bought from frys.I am running xfer from windows 98. What could my problems be?
April 4, 2008 at 11:08 pm #12486I have got the unit taking an ip address from a bootp server I setup so now it doesnt keep resetting. How can I have this unit download a new image from an ftp server?
April 5, 2008 at 8:58 pm #12492Hi,
I would try and use bootp to load this, if you are using Microsoft DHCP as the bootp server set up the option tag 66 and 67. One is the IP address of the DHCP server and the second is the firmware you want to load, like “myfirmware.bin”
Now, download TFTP32.exe (Google it, its free). This program can be unzipped and ran without installation on you DHCP server. Configure a directory for the TFTP server like C:TPTP and put the firmware in there,

April 6, 2008 at 2:01 am #12496The box just decided to start showing up in WDM. Although it shows as a windows ce box not NTe. Maybe this is a step in the right direction?

I am really surprised Xfer would not work but I have not dealt with these old devices. There was a util to load the image directly to the PC Card Flash that’s in the box but I have never used it and would have no idea where to find it.
There must be a way to load these up again. Does Xfer even try to start? What happens?

-TTApril 6, 2008 at 4:58 am #12500xfer just sits there saying waiting to start download, and never actually starts. I see that the unit was from walmart, was there a way for them to lock out the xfer program from pushing the image? Also is there any hope of pushing an image from WDM? Also I have tried to pull out the compact flash and reading it in a cf port on my comp with no luck. I guess if I could find the card programmer I could manually erase it. Do you possibly remember what the program was called so I can google it?
April 6, 2008 at 10:46 am #12505No I don’t sorry, there is a way to program the flash but I have never used it. I will ask a ex-wyse guy I know and he may recall.
Weird about Xfer, unfortunately I have never had a 8360 to play with so not sure how to recover these.
If I get more info I will post back,

-TTApril 7, 2008 at 7:45 pm #12535I pulled down the configuration in WDM are there instructions about the diffrent fields? I’d like to be able to get the box to download the firmware from WDM.
April 7, 2008 at 9:15 pm #12537Hi,
Are you sure this is not a 3360SE? Can you make sure its running NTe not Windows CE? If it shows up as CE and you can pull the config it sounds like a CE box.
If this is the case this is why Xfer will not work as you may have been trying to load the wrong image!
Cheers,
-TTApril 7, 2008 at 9:38 pm #12539Well on the case says it’s
model no: WT8360se
part number: 901996-15
os tag on case: WinNT Emb 4.0 class 2BUT WDM shows
OS: Windows CE .NET
Image: 467.35
HAgent: 4.0.4.8
Platform: MidwayApril 7, 2008 at 10:14 pm #12542Well based off your hunch I took the 3360 bin files and they took and the unit was updated. I’m confused though as the case clearly states that this is a 8360se. Is it possible the wrong case was on the machine or the mobo was switched?
April 8, 2008 at 6:15 am #12548It looks like someone has converted this unit from NTe to CE without labeling it correct.
