I am in a similar situation as outlined in this topic.
However, I am using WDM to collect the MAC Addresses and name the thin clients (C10LE). I would like to extract the MAC and NAME from WDM to create a mac.ini for each device so that my help desk can use the “G” key reset as a basis for troubleshooting without worrying about the device having to be renamed.
Is there any way to access the Name field in WDM and add it as a variable to be used in the .ini Parameters window of MAC.ini generator?
Alternatively, are there any command line args available with MACGen that would allow me to pass mac, name, and output path to allow me to use it in a command file?
Or am I totally out of my mind for even attempting this π―

14. September 2011 at 19:49 #21028You can use the TerminalName=xxxx parameter in each mac.ini file to automatically rename the unit after resetting.
Currently MacGen does not support this automatically but I guess this would be possible somehow. Unfortunately I have little time at the moment to dive deeper in that.CG
16. September 2011 at 15:24 #21049I found some time and updated MacGen. Now you are importing the names along with the mac address and put this back in the mac.ini file.
Let me know if this works for you.

16. September 2011 at 18:52 #21052I checked it out with the one record I currently have in WDM and it worked fine. I am receiving the other 124 Thin Clients next week, and will let you know how it goes then.
I really appreciate that you found time to make this change. I will talk to my boss about making a donation, but even if he doesn’t I will. You have saved someone on our staff countless hours editing text files π
22. January 2014 at 5:35 #24537Wow cool tool BUT so many possible enhancements can be added to it. Like the option to name the file after the serial number and to include the serial number in the ini. I would make all the fields a tick box option.
Love this tool really helps.23. January 2014 at 10:16 #24547You have asked for it – you got it.
Just released MacGen 2.0.
Thanks for your input.CG
