    Hi,

We are having a peculiar problem in our farm. The farm consists of 7 XenApp 6.5 servers and about 85 users. The problem is that occasionally Internet Explorer 11 will freeze when visiting certain websites, which have flash based ads.

Flash player version on the servers is 17.0.0.169, but we have also experienced problems with earlier versions.

Since the clients are Wyse T10, which does not support HDX redirection for flash to client, we have just installed the latest version (2.0.8.0) of Citrix HDX Mediastream for Flash – Server on the XenApp 6.5 servers. The policies that are being used in addition to this are following,

    ICAAdobe Flash DeliveryFlash Redirection

    Flash Acceleration – Enabled

ICAAdobe Flash DeliveryLegacy Server Side Optimizations

Optimize Adobe Flash animation options for all connections

Yet, we are still experiencing problems. Suggestions regarding this, would be highly appreciated.

    Regards

I have a short document in the Products – ThinOS section dealing with Flashhandling in a Citrix environment.
    Please follow that one.

Thank you for the response. I have set up the environment completely as outlined in your document, but they are still experiencing problems. Apparently there are no problems while using Google Chrome, but if they use IE11, its constantly freezing and sometimes will make other applications hang too.

Perhaps ThinOS can’t handle IE11 so well? Because there were no problems when they used IE9. Anyone got experience with IE11 on ThinsOS?

I am using IE11 all the time in my tests without any issues.

Well, the problem is intermittent. Its not constant. For some users it will work just fine, while for others it might not.

I’m really at a loss on how to solve this
This is my environment with Citrix policies

    Windows version: Server 2008 R2
XenApp version: 6.5 with Hotfix Rollup Pack 5
Citrix HDX MediaStream for Flash version: 2.0.8.0

Number of dedicated Datacollectors/XML service brokers: 2
Number of session host servers: 7
    Number of users: 85

Flash player version on the servers: 17.0.0.169
Wyse client: Wyse T10 (ThinOS based)

    Policies

    ICAAdobe Flash DeliveryFlash Redirection
    Flash Acceleration – Disabled

ICAAdobe Flash DeliveryLegacy Server Side Optimizations
Optimize Adobe Flash animation options for all connections

    ICAVisual Display
Max Frames Per Second – 15 fps

    ICAVisual DisplayMoving Images
    Minimum Image Quality – Normal
    Moving Image Compression – Enabled
    Progressive Compression level – None
Target Minimum Frame Rate – 10 fps

IE11 is not published as an application, but rather the server’s whole desktop is published.

How about blocking rendering of flash on specific websites, by using the Flash URL Compatibility List policy?

I’m trying to make this policy work on three different servers, by using Worker Group as filter. I can make it work on one of the servers (I see black boxes where the flash ads are supposed to be), but its not working on the other two servers. Despite all 3 servers belongning to the same Worker Group. Do you have any experience with this?

On the servers where its not working, I can see in the registry that the policies are set (HKLMSoftwarePoliciesCitrix2userMultimediaPolicies)

    HDXFlashEnableLogging Dword 1
HDXFlashPerURLBlacklist REG_MULTI_SZ *The two sites I want to block*

On the server where it is working, if I check the CitrixMultimediaFlash log, I can see following message “A Flash Player instance matched the HDX MediaStream for Flash compatibility list. The Flash rendering will be blocked due to configuration.”

So all three servers are receiving the same Citrix Policy, its working on one of them, while on the other two, I get no such indications in the event log, and I see no black boxes. Flash rendering is working just fine.
