We have about 70 Dell Wyse 3040 units that are all running very well. We use the WNOS file to configure them. I thought I understood how to turn on the VNC but I have added the entry to the file and still can’t connect. My thought is I don’t know which port they are running VNC on. Is this something that is set by the file entry?
The entry I added was
MaxVNCD=1
VNCPassword=<password> Encrypt=No
VNCPrompt=NoAnd I am using VNC with the ip address to connect but no joy. Thoughts?
December 18, 2018 at 3:25 pm #48449I have done that maybe a hundred times or more at different customers and never had issues.
The syntax
MaxVNCD=1
VncPassword=”admin”
VncPrompt=No
is easy and correct. Works perfectly fine.
Just make sure port 5900 is reachable.CG
December 18, 2018 at 3:59 pm #48452Thanks for the fast reply! I am sure this is simple but I am missing something. I am not even getting the password prompt. This is how I am trying to connect. I have tried with or without the port. We have no filtering so the port should not be blocked as we are on an internal connection.
December 18, 2018 at 4:20 pm #48453Might be the version of UltraVNC you are using. Does this work from within WMS at all?
December 18, 2018 at 4:55 pm #48454We don’t have WMS. Were hoping to use VNC for quicky connections.
December 18, 2018 at 4:56 pm #48456I tried the latest version of RealVNC with the same results. Do you think I need an older version?
December 18, 2018 at 7:36 pm #48459Using any standalone VNC viewer should work also.
WDM or WMS are also using standard VNC viewer. Nothing special.CG
December 19, 2018 at 2:35 pm #48462Can I ask why you aren’t using WDM or WMS? Would make sense and allow you to test shadowing via this also.
December 19, 2018 at 8:29 pm #48463Cost is probably the biggest reason. The other reason is that we are slowly moving to 10Zig as units go bad. Mainly because of the free management software that is available for free.
December 19, 2018 at 8:52 pm #48464Are you certain the wnos.ini is being applied to the clients? If I remember correctly it should be viewable under system tools on 8.5? Perhaps you aren’t receiving the file from your FTP/HTTP server?
December 19, 2018 at 9:26 pm #48465WMS is also free of charge

December 19, 2018 at 10:48 pm #48466When we talked to Dell, they told us we could get management software but there was a charge; a significant charge. So if it is free, I guess I will try to find it. Strange that Dell didn’t offer it unless it isn’t a Dell product?
December 19, 2018 at 11:22 pm #48467WMS is available in a Standard, free Edition and a Pro, chargeable one.
In most cases the free Edition is sufficient.
Check wysemanagementsuite.com for a full feature comparison.CG

March 11, 2021 at 10:05 pm #92737Hello.
I am purchasing five Wyse 5470 with ThinOS 9.1. I would like to know a way to access these equipments via vnc outside my LAN Network, by Wan.
These thinclient will be used to access VDI on Microsoft Azure.I already use WMS on my LAN, managing one hundred Wyse 3040.
However, the 5470 will be on stand alone.It is possible to manage them.
Thanks.
