    Hi,

    I have a V90 – I have pushed the XPE WFR2 9V90_S627_512.exe V5.02 B627 image, works fine

Do I need to apply security Patch/Updates? If YES, where to start? There are 181 patches here: http://www.wyse.com/serviceandsupport/support/dlOraSecurityPatch.asp?which=62&Model=V90(Windows%20XPe)

Do I start from the top and down, or from bottom and up? And how do you know which security Patch/Updates to install?

    Check the Start-Client Information.
There you should see a tab with all fixes already installed. It is really a nightmare to find out which one to install and which one not but that’s the way.
If you just install ALL patches you would have to go from bottom to top of the list.

As I am a nice guy, here is the list of installed fixes in your build. So it looks like you have to install each fix that was released after October 2008.

Total QFE’s Present in this build (Updated till October, 2008):

    893357(WPA2), 909520, 918118, 921503, 924270, 924667, 925398_WMP64, 925902, 926247, 926255, 926436, 927779, 927802, 928255, 928388, 928843, 929402,930178, 931261, 931784, 931836(Aug 2007 DST), 931837, 93360, 933729, 935839, 935840, 936021, 936782, 937894, 938127, 938464, 938829, 939653, 941202, 941568, 941569, 941644, 941693, 942615-IE7, 942763, 943055, 943460, 943485, 944533, 945553, 946026, 947864, 948590, 948881, 950749, 950759, 950760, 950762, 950974, 951066, 951072, 951376, 951376-v2, 951698, 951748, 952954, 953155, 953400, 953838, 953839, 954154, 954211, 955210, 955999, 956390, 956391, 956803, 956841, 957095, 957782

Thanks alot for you answer…………………………..I agree, what a nightmare.

New question: The last applied update is number 66 . “Must” I apply all updates from number 1 to 65, starting with number 65? What is best practics?

Yes, that would be the way to go.
Best way is to use WDM for that as all packages on the Wyse site are already in WDM package format.

.. and keep the Write Filter disabled as this would save you several reboots.

Why can’t Wyse V90 use traditional Windows Update web page or get updates from a WSUS server? (no nightmare using Windows update or WSUS 🙂 )

I latest images WSUS is supported but there are some issues with this:
    – no handling of Write Filter
    – no checking which fixes are really needed for XPe instead of XP Pro
    – all fixes are also copied under c:windows for later uninstall option. This is not done when using the Wyse fixes along with WDM and saves a lot of valuable flash memory.
