We have a bunch of the Wyse S30’s (about 150) that are really slow when swapping between applications and just slow overall. I want to get some feedback on converting the OS on these to WTOS (and what version to use) and if it is really a better way to? We would be purchasing the conversion kit from Wyse..
We only use the Wyse in our environment to connect to an Citrix/Xen server and in the next three months they will ONLY connect via a PNAGent as we move to Xen 5 and then to 6.5 (our new mixed farm) from a 4.0 farm. Anyway, is this move a good idea (CE to WTOS). Either way I’d really like some feedback and such. Thanks guys
2. December 2011 at 13:53 #21450WTOS 7.1 ICA client is more advanced than CE one (especially S30). So, my advice – move! (But don’t expect multimedia on your new S10:-) ) The real advantage of converting S30 to S10 (compared to the new S10) is that you’re getting ThinOS 7 which resides on the flash (since S30 has flash, while true S10 – not) and you can start up your devices without netwok load of the main part of ThinOS

thanks!
9. December 2011 at 11:40 #21465conversion kit gives you some 7.0xxx. Youcan get ThinOS maintanace or upgrade from Wyse and reflash ‘newly cooked’ S10 to 7.1. I made it – it is working.
20. January 2012 at 15:53 #21687So we decided to buy a sample S10 instead of converting our S30 and to my amazement wtos 7.1 won’t load as the compressed image size is too large. I am so bummed. What a waste of $$
Recommendations?
23. January 2012 at 7:42 #21693What do you mean with “compressed image size is too large” ?
See if i get it right. WTOS 7.x is indeed to large to fit into the rom, and therefore only the minirom will be flashed in the rom and loaded at (cold) startup. Once started WTOS will be loaded from the network/ftp but this is only from a “cold” boot, on a “warm” boot WTOS will stay in memory.
In short a (converted) S10 is able to handle WTOS 7.1x, unless i’m wrong here.

So would this also be the same for a converted S30?
2. February 2012 at 16:40 #21739No, a converted S30 can hold the whole image.
