When I attempt to install WDM on XP Pro it goes through the install all the way to the MSDE setup then fails. Says it can not start <>RAPPORTDB service.

I had the services applet open with the F5 key down for the refresh of the service and it was started.

I have had WDM on this machine before. I uninstalled it to install the WSI to push an image to a dead device.

I was trying to install them both on the same machine and stop the services when i used WSI.

Any ideas on how to force the database install.

The trick was to manually install msde and then select a custom setup and tell the setup application to use an existing msde instance.

    Nice Scotty,

Sorry I did not get to this but glad you fixed it.

The reason for the error I think was there was a registry setting from the old install pointing to the DB so the installer thinks MSDE is already there. the key is under HKLM/Rapport.

Also, do not put WSI and WDM on the same PC and they share the same imaging Wizard files so one will over write the other. For small setups I put WDM in a VMware machine on Windows Server (VMware server is now free on the VMware site) and WSI on my notebook. You could also put WSI in a VM and just start it when you need it.

    Thanks for posting back,

    Cheers,
    -TT
