Issue – USB Thumb Drives ONLY show in a XenApp 6 Published Desktop on a Wyse CL10E if the drives were plugged in PRIOR to logon. They will not map into the session when they are plugged in after logon.
Setup:
– Citrix XenApp 6 Published Desktop
– Wyse CL10E with WTOS 7.0.113
– Wyse Device Manager 4.8 (no hotfixes installed)On a Thick Client logged into the Published Desktop via the Web Interface, this is not an issue. The only thing I notice that is different between the two is that when mapped the Wyse Device shows the drive as a “Floppy Drive” and the Web Interface session shows it as a “Removeable Drive”. (before the question gets asked, I have enabled Floppy Drive redirection in XenApp policy).
Anyone seen this an know if there is a possible solution? Although it’s very quick for a user to log into a session, I don’t think it is going to be workable for my client to have a user log out and back in to see a USB drive.[/list]
1. April 2011 at 6:30 #20305When using XenApp 6 you will indeed notice that client drive mapping (good example are Wyse clients) also known as USB client drive will be mapped with Floppy Drive behavior.
Check your Citrix policy tobe sure you haven’t disabled floppy drive. Be sure you have enabled mapdisksunderz=yes (global setting) and Mapdisks=yes (session setting) in your wnos.ini
If you are still having troubles try using the Configuration Generator or post your wnos.ini
4. April 2011 at 3:37 #20309I had everything in place as you had mentioned minus “mapdisksunderz=yes”. Once I put this in the INI file (I am using Configuration Generator), then I got the “Floppy Disk Z:) where my USB Thumb Drives dynamically mapped.
Just out of curiosity though I’ve posted my INI file here in case there was something else stopping it. I would have kinda liked if they would map the way they would if they are plugged in from the start, but in the end it works.;*************************************************************

MapdriveunderZ is the only option you have at this moment.CG

Thanks for all the replies. As stated in my first reply, I now have a workable solution to my problem.
21. May 2011 at 0:16 #20520I have the exact same setup:
Windows Server 2008 R2
Citrix XenApp 6 Published Desktop (no hotfixes applied)
Wyse CL10E with WTOS 7.0.113I just started having problems with USB thumb drive redirection. I’m not exactly sure when it started because it was working fine at one time, but I just noticed it today. Here is my wnos.ini file:

PnliteServer=10.0.20.38 AutoConnectList=”Published Desktop”
SessionConfig=ICA DesktopMode=Fullscreen MapDisksUnderZ=yes OnDesktop=desktopsI also have the following set in my Citrix User Policy:
Auto connect client drives: Enabled
Client drive redirection: Allowed
Client floppy drives: Allowed
Client removable drives: Allowed
Client USB device redirection: AllowedI can login and see Floppy Disk Z: mapped fine, but when I try to access it, I see “The folder is empty”
This was working perfectly before which is why I don’t understand why it suddenly is not showing removable drives. We only have about 15 users connecting to our Citrix Farm currently, which is why nobody has noticed it yet, but it is something I will need to get working again soon.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Are there any log files or debug information that might point me in the right direction? Please help.
Thank you.
Mike
21. May 2011 at 16:14 #20521Check the WTOS eventlog after inserting the USB stick. It should show you something like “found USB device” followed by “mapped as D:”
Is the attached storge device formatted with NTFS? This is not supported.CG
23. May 2011 at 16:44 #20532That was it! Both drives I tested were formatted with NTFS. And now that I think about it, when I had originally set it up and tested, that drive was formatted FAT 32. Thank you for the quick reply. I was going crazy on Friday trying to figure out what had changed.
