We are wanting to take several of our computers and convert them over to a “thin client” using PC extender. Our problem is that we would rather not install Windows XP on the computer and instead boot PC Extender from a USB drive or PXE boot without involving XP. We can’t install XP then create a VM of Windows 7 because our OS license does not allow that unless we pay Microsoft more $$. Does anyone know how to setup PC Extender to boot from a USB drive or PXE boot? If not, I found VDI Blaster that can be used to boot from a USB drive. Anyone know if this would work with VMWare? Thank you in advance for your help!
28. December 2010 at 10:44 #19724The current version of PCE does not offer the option to be installed on a blank PC or via USB stick.
The next version should do that but there is no release date available at the moment.CG
10. December 2012 at 19:19 #23117Is there any news on this. I see this post was created in 2010? We are looking to demo this product but are looking for just a boot from USB solution. Does anyone know if this can be done with the current version?
Thanks!

Any ideas?
12. December 2012 at 20:36 #23139The ldlinux files is a hidden system file. Have you enabled Windows to show these kind of files?
Download the guide again. I have uploaded an updated version.CG
12. December 2012 at 22:02 #23141So in step 2.7 it indicates to copy the SYSLINUX.CFG file “that was included with these notes”. Can you be more specific, as the only thing with this file is a PDF? Am I missing something here? Thanks!
Also – I have the main PCX .EXE file, what command do I use to extract those two files referenced in the PDF file?

18. December 2012 at 15:56 #23170Did you extract those ZIP files from the main installer for PCX? I have the latest version, but would like to know where specifically I can obtain those files from. Do I need to install it, then find the ZIP files that way?
Thank you!
19. December 2012 at 9:51 #23178No, these files are seperate.

Is it possible for you to put up the 2 zip files again? I am really looking for an option to do a usb installation of PC Extender and this is a perfect solution for us. Thanks so much in advance!

10. January 2013 at 15:36 #23285I created the PC Extender installer on a USB drive and tried it on a laptop. It seemed to work but it wiped win 7 OS from my HD. Is there a way to have pc-extender just boot from the pen drive and not recreate /wipe out the OS on any machine?
Thanks
