Assigning DDC to group not working

    Hi,

    in our company I installed about 50 clients without any bigger problems.
    But now I have a big problem.

    I have created a group with two subgroups. In that Subgroup I put my devices. After that I created an image for this subgroup and assigned it to the group in the DDC. After pushing the OK button I controlled the changes I made but the assignment was lost.

    I tried to create all things again and again, but it is not working. I cannot allocate this image to the subgroup.

    My system:

    Win XP SP2
    Rapport 4.4.1 Enterprise with all HF

    in Rapport:
    20 groups with 2 subgroups each
    22 images for subgroups
    1 DDC for all WT1125SE clients (Blazer/ThinOS)
    ~50 clients in the subgroups

    What did I do wrong? It worked fine for the fifty clients even when I got too less licences. Now I installed additional licences but it is still not working.

    Please help me.

    Hi Michael,

    Just to confirm, the only thing that has changed is that you added some licences to Rapport. You already had all the groups and DDC setup and working but now you cant assign a new DDC to a folder?

    Now that is a strange one…

    correct. Much more stranger is the fact that now the DDC I tried to assign to the subgroup is beend saved. I don’t know what happened. Nothing has changed since I posted this message.

    So this morning I created another group and image and assigned this image to the latest group. And what wonder it’s not working.

    Does the PC or Rapport itself need any special time to save settings?

    The Wyse Support is also a little confused about my situation.

    Another mistake happens when I assign more than one image to different groups. This is the failure:

    “runtime error -2147217833 (80040e57):
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime.”

    “Display Error: 429 Object creation from ActiveX component impossible”

    After that I have to close Rapport and start it again. Then Rapport need to connect to the database although Rapport asked me to save the changes.

    Hmm, I really am not sure about this one. I have used DDC on 1125 with 100’s of devices no problem.

    Are you using the Rapport console on the Rapport server or a remote one? A long shot but the remote console will need to be patched as well.

    My only other quick sugestion is install Rapport in a VMware box and recreate the installation (use the same licence keys and not on the production network). If this works with he same setup as the prod Rapport server then we will know if its a bug or sometings gone wrong with Rapport.

    Also be aware that Windows XP has a concurrent connection limit and really is not suitable for that many devices.

    Sorry I am not much help with this one, gut feel is something has got screewed up on the server,

    Hi,

    I really don’t know what the server is doing. I created the images, groups and DDC one time with the remote console. Aftre that I close the console and opened it up directly on the server. And now guess what happened?!
    Correct, the DDC was correct. I did it this way with some other images and groups and it works.
    This is really strange to me but as long as it works I’m happy ;o))

    Nonetheless I wanna know what made this thing work and why didn’ it work the “normal” way. Any suggestions now?

    Ahh, I love it when the answer arrives. The remote console suggestion in my post was a long shot but the right one (patting myself on the back here) 😮

    Here is the issue, you have done everything right with the patches on the server however when you run a remote console you must apply all of the same patches. You should be getting an error when you open the remote console up about this (did you get the error warnings?)

    The reason is the SQL procedures are located with the console and need to be updated to match the server. Patch your console up the same and all is well!!!!

    But yep…I installed all patches on the console as well… an error message did not appear. It all worked fine with the other 50 clients I already had installed.

    Don’t know what the problem is. I tried to assign the DDC to the groups all on the server and that had worked for 50 clients. I didn’t do it from the remote console.

    The version with the remote console and the server as I described in my last post was despairingly.

    That is strange, maybe re-install the console and see if it corrects to problem? You could also try installingthe console on a different machine, maybe you have discovered an issue?

    Just make sure you unistall the additional consoles after testing as Rapport keeps track of each…

    What hotfixes have you applied?

    I think there is a hotfix to fix blazer ddc with multiple groups and multiple images….one or the other works.

    It is after the big roll-up hotfix 32905.
    I believe the blazer DDC fix was 33005.

    In fact its in the downloads section under Rapport
