    Hello,

I’ve noticed that our old 3235LE’s often erase flash drives when people insert them in the terminal. Of all of the Wyse models I’ve used, it only seems to be this model, and it has happened a at least five of them now. It only seems to happen to some drives, and I can not find a pattern in the drive size, make or contents.

I’ve instructed staff not to use the usb port for their flash drives, to be on the safe side, but it is a pity as this is a useful function.

Does anyone have any idea of how this can be prevented?

    Thank you,

    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,

this is a know issue. It happens due to an old mass-storage addon. You should update to the latest version.
It only happens to flash drives that are formatted with NTFS.

Thank you, I will give that a go. Is there a particular version of the add-on I should be looking for?

P.S. I may be going blind, but over the last couple of years I have looked for an answer to this problem all over the Wyse site, and with a fair bit of googling too, and this is the first time I have found anyone who knew of the issue. I even phoned Wyse technical support once (when the devices were still in warranty) to see if they could help and they’d never heard of the problem. I’m only revisiting it because someone erased a drive on Friday and they looked like they were going faint when I told them I could not recover the data.

Anything higher than Build 11 should do the trick.
What OS version are you running?

    Hello Confgen,

Thank you for the help so far.

I am running CE5 on one test unit, and 4.2 on the other.

I see that the CE5 unit is showing Version 3, Build 16 for the mass-storage addon, while the 4.2 unit is showing Version 1, build 9. I can update the 4.2 unit, but I thought I should try recreating the problem first, so I can be sure I have actually fixed it.

I formatted a usb drive (1GB) with NTFS, copied some files to it and tried to recreate the erasure problem, on both terminals and I could not do so.

Neither machine will erase the flash drive, and neither machine is allowing me to view the flash drive contents from the terminal server. I’ve ticked the drive mapping box in the connection manager, and I can see the “Files on WTxxxyyy” option in explorer, but that node is empty when I double click it.

Remote mapped usb drives work on the terminal servers with all of the other terminal makes and models, I just can’t seem to make it work on the 3235LE, and because I have had the ban on using them with flash drives for so long, I can not remember if this was always a problem.

    Any thoughts?

Format the same key with FAT32 and try again.
I am 100% that Wyse fixed this issue in build 10.3 and above. So you can upgrade the CE4 units mass-storage addon to the latest available and feel free to allow your users to use USB sticks again.
