Not sure if it helps, but you’ll eventually have to move to 4.5.3 if only temporarily. WDM 4.7 won’t upgrade form 4.4.1.
I agree with the “if is ain’t broke don’t fix” method when it comes to WDM…Yeah there are a lot of new gizmos and bug fixes in current code, but there’s also new layers of complexity that accompany that stuff. 4.7 beta seems stable and it has big differences when you look at end-to-end security with HTTPS support for communication and file transfer.
