Tech Docs: Change in VNC parameter for WTOS

WTOS - Rocking fast and virus immune

in the latest versions of WTOS Wyse has changed the way the MaxVNCD parameter is working.
Now you have to use MaxVNCD=1 to enable shadowing and MaxVNCD=0 to disable. Yes/No is no longer supported.

I will integrate this in the next ConfGen release.

UPDATE: The new ConfGen version 6.0.08 is released and has this fix included. Feel free to download it here

Tech Docs: XPe: German MUI and Integrating into Active Directory

Windows Embedded - XPe, WES, WES7, WE8S Mangelsdorff writes "If you change the MUI of a V90L (even newest Build 596) to German and take the device into the domain then you will face problems at logon to the device:
- long time until logon
- taskbar not visible (only a line) and not functional

There is a FIX available from Wyse which solves the problem."

Tech Docs: Using PXE without IP Helpers

Wyse Device Management

Imaging Wyse devices with PXE across WAN or VLAN requires the use of IP helpers and it is not always possible to configure the required network changes on switches or routers.

The PXE RFC requires that the boot server receive a DHCP request packet from a client to the boot server. This UDP packet needs to be explicitly forwarded by a router or layer 3 switch to traverse the network. A DHCP relay or IP helper is used to forward the DHCP request to a central DHCP server and PXE boot server.

Both the boot server and DHCP server are both listening on the same port (UDP 66) for the same packet. The DHCP server replies with an acknowledgement and the PXE boot server will reply with the details of the location of the boot server.

Tech Docs: WDM Troubleshooting Guide

Wyse Device Management Issue:
After Installation Wyse Device Manager has an issue and is not functional.

There are a number of possible reasons that may be the cause of failure of WDM to function, commonly these are with the web service, hagent, rapport service or device discovery.

This simply excellent guide has been written by karaziel on how to troubleshoot issues with Wyse Device Manager along with use of common troubleshooting tools. Its an in depth guide and is recommended reading for any WDM administrator.

Tech Docs: Installing Wyse Device Manager 4.5.3 with SQL 2005 Express

Wyse Device Management Issue:
Wyse Device Manger (WDM) Workgroup edition comes bundled with the Microsoft Desktop Engine 2000 (MSDE 2000) and many administrators would like the database to be hosted on the newer SQL 2005 Express Edition.

WDM 4.5.3 has native support for SQL 2005 and can easily be used with SQL 2005. Older 4.5.x versions may still be used with SQL 2005 however additional installation steps are required.

Tech Docs: Creating a Simple XP RDP Kiosk

Windows Embedded - XPe, WES, WES7, WE8S Issue:
It is required to create a locked down Kiosk to connect to a Terminal Server session with RDP

Wyse Xpe and NTe terminals can be locked down and use other applications as a shell for RDP. This does require some special consideration for the user account that logs in.

Tech Docs: V90 Wide Screen Resolutions and Rotation

Windows Embedded - XPe, WES, WES7, WE8S
Here is another BIOS file posted today, it looks like BlackBurn has started something after his last post...

V90 does not support wide screen resolutions or screen rotation. On some LCD monitors the image "flickers" or "shakes".

The V90 uses a VIA PM880 UniChrome integrated graphics chip set and newer drivers to resolve monitor issues can be downloaded from under the XPe SP2 section.

Tech Docs: Creating Images with Wyse Simple Imager

Wyse Device Management Issue:
In a small test lab without Wyse Device Manager a XPe or Linux image needs to be "pulled" from the Thin Client.

The Wyse Simple Imager (WSI) is built on the Wyse Wizard Imaging System that underpins WDM. This quick to install tool can pull images if the GUI is by bypassed.

To extract an image first install WSI and test you can push an image. You can then use the Wizard files to pull your custom image.

Note: Download the Wyse Simple Imager from the V90 firmware download page:

Do you think the acquisition of Wyse by Dell is good?

Finally Dell has great Thin Clients
Dell will probably kill the Wyse brand
The best that could happen to Wyse
The best that could happen to the TC market
