We love thin client terminals here at the free monkeys. In fact we love server based computing in general. But when first getting into Wyse thin client there is not enough good information....well the monkeys will share what they know with you!

Wyse Xenith on its way to the zenith

Thin Press

Yesterday Wyse unveiled a new product called Wyse XenithTM at Citrix Synergy 2010. During the keynote of Citrix CEO Mark Templeton, the Wyse Product Manager, Hector Angulo, presented this cool new product. You can watch the whole keynote here: http://www.citrix.com/tv/#videos/2136. The Wyse demonstration starts a about 1:13h.

Xenith
XenithTM is based on the C-class hardware with a special HDX engine running on it. This "custom Citrix Receiver for Wyse Xenith, designed by Wyse in collaboration with Citrix, is integrated into Wyse Xenith’s engine
ensuring continued access to a host of existing and forthcoming Citrix HDX features" as you can read on the XenithTM datasheet.

Wyse is really defining a new meaning of the word "Zero". Zero now means that there is zero management, zero security issues, zero delay in getting to work, nearly zero energy use but unfortunately not zero money.

The device is running with 6.7 Watt and only around 1 Watt while powered down. This for itself means a great money saver. But if you add the "Zero" management to the sum, the saving is much higher.
With the custom designed HDX engine the enduser can easily play videos, flash or other multimedia stuff in realtime without using the Wyse TCX Suite. And also HDX Plug and Play is supported. So you are able to plug in your USB memory stick, webcams, scanner, PDAs, iPhone, etc, etc... without doing any management or driver installation on the client side.

Watch the above video to see it live in action or visit the Wyse website to get some more facts about this cool device.

Press Items: Configuration Generator Version 6 released

Configuration Generator

Earlier than expected I have finished my work on the new release of the Configuration Generator. I have really included a lot of new features to make it even easier to handle and look even better than before.

New features are:

  • New Wizard Mode for WTOS configuration (if you like that, I will do the same for Linux)
  • Ability to save the default folder path for opening and generating new ini files
  • New cool icon
  • New splashscreen
  • Some dozen new parameters for SUSE Linux added
  • Fixed an issue which occurs while opening ConfGen the first time
  • General bugfixing (as always)

Come on, download the new version and then do what you have to do -> press the Paypal button and let me know how much time this tool saves you.

Wyse enhanced Suse Linux 11 silently slipped through the door

Thin Press

Last month Wyse has released quite silently the new version of its Novell SLED 11 based Thin Client OS. This new version is available for C50LE, R50L/LE and X50L/LE.

The reason why Wyse released this new version so quitely is not very obvious to me as the release really has a lot of great new featues. Maybe we see a big announcement at this months Citrix Synergy in San Francisco.
I have updated my Configuration Generator to match all the new parameters and believe me: There are a lot of them. I will also incude some real cool new features, like a Wizard to simplify the creation of the wnos.ini even further. Release is planned for later today or tomorrow.

But now back to the main story. The release and the new features of SLETC 11 (Wyse enhanced Suse Linux Enterprise for Thin Clients):

  • Based on SUSE Linux Enterprise 11
  • Improved boot time
  • C-class support

Wyse Enhanced Suse Linux 11 is in beta

Wyse Linux V6 - 5150SE, S50, V50

Wyse is just in the last steps of the beta process of their updated Linux version.
This Linux version is based on Novel Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 11 and is, similar to the current version, a stripped down SLED. Officially it is therefore named Wyse Enhanced Suse Linux Enterprise for Thin Clients (SLETC). The new version will have some really significant improvements like build in PCoIP or ICA 11. Here is a list of all features:

Press Items: WSM 3.0 released

Thin Press

WSM WSM 3.0 released
WSM, Wyse OS and Application streaming solution, was updated to version 3.0. There are a overwhelming set of new feature in that version, which I have listed below. But I will discuss some of them in a more detail.

With switching to a Site-based architecture Wyse reaches the goal of making WSM high available. Each remote location is called a site and connects back to the HQ Server. Each site has an independent server and database but is still controlled by the HQ. But even if the HQ Server isn't available anymore, the sites can operate normaly without any influence on the work of the users. And even in one site you can have
